The beginning

The Oriental Cultural Center DIWAN was founded in 1998 by Mohamed Abdel Aziz. At that time he offered translation services and Arabic courses.

Through his activity as an Arabic teacher he noticed that there was a wide interest here for oriental culture and a desire for cultural exchange. So he began to expand his organization culturally and artistically.

The first cultural activities – oriental evenings and arabic cooking classes – found great interest and the news travelled fast. Artists heard of DIWAN and contacted us and helped us organize exhibitions and workshops.

Through the growing interest and the cooperation of various artists we are now able to provide courses, workshops, readings and exhibitions. Of course Arabic as well as German classes are also still in progress.
